Honorary Chiefs of

The United Cherokee Nation (UCN)

Chief Willy Whitefeather- Honorary Chief Storyteller - Oregon Clan

O'siyo and Hola to all of The United Cherokee Nation (UCN), sending you prayers for health, wealth and happiness. I was so honored by The Tribal Council in being named as an Honorary Chief Storyteller.

In South America I am called Pluma Blanca, In Tsalagi (Cherokee) it's Unegah Ugidali and to everyone else it's Willy Whitefeather. Now that I've seen seventy-two Winters and am coming off of thiry years on the road, all of my teachers and storytelling friends have passed on. The spiritual path has taken me to many tribes. The Mohave, Hopi, Navajo and Pima to name a few. Many are forgetting the old ways. "For without it's roots a tree will die". You who are coming home to your roots have the D. N. A., the Devine Native American blood.

I have received seven visions of which is to come, my visions are strong, as I can stare at the Sun and the Sun is dim compared to my visions. My Mother and her family were from Argentina and my Father's family were called hillbillies from Georgia and Tennessee. My Great-Grandparents were on the "Trail of Tears", the death march given to the Tsalagi (Cherokee) People. I have learned the wild plants and taught desert survival to two Army battalions in Arizona and was given two civilian medals by the Colonel.

As your Honorary Chief Storyteller I always begin with; "Don't believe it". That is the correct way to speak as I was taught by Tallman a Navajo Codetalker and Storyteller. For if a storyteller ever should say; "Believe it" and says the wrong thing then he or she can damage the listener. Stories should always be told to enjoy and not to control. Tsalagi (Cherokee) and other tribal stories are told to cause us to think and how to create. As Wilma Mankiller said; "We must make a better world for the next Seven Generations of children". (Since 1983 Wilma served four terms as Chief of the Cherokee Nation.)

In Hopes that my stories will help to strengthen our roots.

For the Children,

Wahdo,

Willy
