My name is Doug "Two Horses" Phillips

I was born and raised in North Louisiana.  My ancestors migrated from Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama.  They are of the Deer Clan. In my younger years my friends would make sport of me saying one horse was not enough for me as I would wear it out and I would need two horses to keep up with me, hence my name.

I am a retired deep-sea diver.  I am a former Marine and Viet Nam combat Veteran.

As a child I hunted rabbits and set traps, while my little friends watched sports on TV. My family still has it's own ritual involving the blood when a boy makes his first kill when hunting deer. So as a child I knew I was different than the others as I was only comfortable in the forest, as was my father.

On my mothers side my granny is 3/4 Cherokee and on my fathers side, my grandpa was 7/8's Cherokee. Only enough Irish to carry the Welsh/ Irish last name, which is fine.

However with no paperwork and being young, out looking for excitement, none of this seemed to matter at the time. In 1988 my father died. That last summer I spent every moment I could with him as we were close and spent every spare moment hunting, fishing, and trapping together. He told me before he died that the only thing he regretted in his whole life was not listing me and my brother as Cherokee on our birth certificate.

Admiring my father as I did, and I still do, I realized it was the most important thing for both of us. I was glad to find Chief Stone Bear and the United Cherokee Nation (UCN), for myself and the memory of my father.

I am looking forward to do whatever is needed to move forward with "The Gathering".
