Osiyo (Hello)

I am Chief Janet “Morning Star” Hostetler. When called upon, I was honored to be offered the position of clan chief and proudly accepted the responsibilities as the Clan Chief of the Florida Clan for the United Cherokee Nation (UCN). This is the time for THE "GATHERING", for all of us to unite and come together.

I have been researching my family history for years. My father said there was Cherokee in the family (his grandmother was full-bloodied). Years ago it was not acceptable to be Indian; needless to say his great-grandfather threw away some papers. My father was recognized by local clans, he died before he became a member of the United Cherokee Nation (UCN). I am proud to be carrying on my father’s dream to be recognized.

I look forward to talking with all members in Florida and Alabama. Please contact me and let me know about yourself.  I am here for you, to unite and work together. Feel free to call or email and let me know about yourself and your dreams for THE "GATHERING".

Wado (Thank you)

Chief Janet “Morning Star” Hostetler

My name is Marvin (Walking Bear) Tucker. I was born in Albemarle NC 1946. I am a direct descendant of Wolfe and Sarah Coon and Chief Dragging Canoe.

When I was young I would go to visit My G-Grand Mother Kitty Coon Wilson daughter of Alfred (name given by White man) and Sarah Coon. I would walk with her in the woods as she gathered roots and herbs for her Medications. I didn't know at that time but as I got older I did understand that she was a Servant of the people as was her Mother.

My father taught me to have respect for my elders and all mankind and especially Mother Earth. But as most of us I had plans to become the best soldier in the military and later becoming a contractor and I forgot all about my ancestors for many years.
In 1996 I became ill with the cancer and while laying in the hospital room, I made a promise to Creator that if he would show me the way to beat this that I would follow his white path forever.

I met Chief Silent Bear and Sage Woman and began to listen to the ways of our ancestors, and I realized that this was what I wanted to do, I was to teach our young ones in the Sacred Land of The 80, the ways Of The Cherokee people. I built the first sacred drum for our group. Then I set aside sacred land for our dancing and calling to the Spirits.

I was honored when I was voted the Assistant Principal Chief of our small but powerful group.

I now follow the path of The Creator and I think he has given me the task of passing His word on to the world. This was told to me in a vision.

I am honored to work with the visions of the United Cherokee Nation (UCN) as an Assistant Clan Chief, and I won't let you down.

The path of The United Cherokee Nation (UCN) has already been set by The Creator and I love being part of that path.

Wado to all,

Assistant Clan Chief, Rev. Marvin ( Walking Bear, ah ee suh  yoh nah) Tucker

Report on the Florida Barbeque, June 08, 2008

We had a very successful gathering on Sunday in Lake Placid Florida. There were members and non-members from all over the state attending. As well as several people that are going to become members. We had an honored guest, Robert "White Crow" Cornwall and his wife Cheryl Cornwall of the Alapaha River Band of Cherokee was the first to arrive. White Crow and I had an extended conversation about out ancestors and found out that he and I were distant Cousins from the Tucker family of South Carolina. That was a nice surprise.

Thank you White Crow.

I think everyone had a good time getting to know their fellow members and talking about things of interest to them, even though the weather was about 95 degrees. The BBQ was catered from Smoke Man Catering and was very good. Plenty of Ribs, Chicken and Pulled Pork for all. Everyone attending brought a dish to share with the crowd. There was everything from a salad from Rev: Zan 'Butterfly Deer Woman" to a Cake to die for from Donna "Indian Drums" Stodtko and home made bread from Barbara West. Rev: Zan "Butterfly Deer Woman" led us in prayer before dinner. We had about 30 Brothers and Sisters attend: We were sorry that our State Clan Chief and Clan Mother could not attend.

The Pictures are on the Photobucket website.
